Trek through the beautiful area of Zagori, rich in fl ora and fauna. Walking amongst the Pindos Mountains we look for eagles, see glacial lakes and climb to the summit of Mount Smolikas (2637m). We visit traditional villages with their distinctive cobbled streets and stone houses, and see the local shepherds with their fl ocks in the high grazing pastures. We also trek along the Vikros Gorge, through forests and over alpine meadows.
12 day tour itinerary
Day 1 Tour starts Ioannina, Zagori. Day 2 Monodendri Transfer to the ridge-top hamlet of Monodendri in Vikos National Park. Walk down to Lower Monodendri for views of the great canyon that is Vikos Gorge. Day 3 Megalo Papingo Trek through Vikros Gorge along the River Voidomatis and up to the village of Papingo. Day 4 Astraka Walk through alpine terrain, home to golden eagles, to Astraka Refuge. Optional afternoon walk to Dhrakolimni Lake or the summit of Mount Astraka. Days 5/6 Tsepelovo Following a gully we arrive to Rombozi Pond then descend to the alpine meadows around the traditional village of Tsepelovo. Optional walk to local villages and Ottoman bridge. Day 7 Vrisokhori A challenging hike takes us across high grazing

pastures and over the Tsuka Rossa Pass (2377m). Day 8 Paleoselli Climbing up through forests we arrive at Paleoselli village, then continue through alpine terrain, wildfl owers and grazing meadows, to the refuge. Day 9 Smolikas Summit Follow a good, steep zigzag trail to the summit of Mount Smolikas (2637m), the second highest mountain in Greece. Enjoy views over the ‘Dragon Lakes’. Descend and transfer to Konitsa. Day 10 Trapezitsa Ridge Optional trek to the Trapezitsa Ridge for spectacular views over the whole region. Day 11 Ioannina Transfer to Ioannina. Optional visit to the ancient site of Dodoni. Day 12 Tour ends Athens.
