Following quiet trails through villages, the fi rst part of this trek takes us into the Hinku Valley and to the base of Mera Peak, with plenty of time built in for acclimatisation along the way. There is then the chance to summit Nepal’s highest trekking peak, Mera Peak (6476m). From the summit we are surrounded by fi ve of the world’s 8000m peaks, Kanchengjunga, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho Oyu and Everest.
23 day tour itinerary
Day 1 Join tour Kathmandu. Day 2 Kathmandu Take a walking tour of Durbar Square and the Asan Bazaar before a full trek briefi ng. Day 3 Fly to Lukla Take a fl ight to Lukla and meet our trekking crew. Descend from Lukla until we reach Surke village and continue on to Poyang. Days 4/5 Najing Dingma Follow an old trade route to Kharte before climbing through rhododendron forest to the Pangkongma La (3175m) and our fi rst view of Mera Peak. Cross the pastures of Najing Dingma to our camp. Days 6/7 Chalem Kharka A steep climb brings us to the Surke La (3085m) and

on to Chalem Kharke where we take a day to acclimatise. Days 8/9 Trek to Khote Follow the trail around to the Hinku Valley and follow the banks of the Mojong Khola to Khote. Days 10/11 Acclimatisation Trek along the banks of the river until we reach Tangnag where we take time to acclimatise. Days 12/13 Khare A long ascent to our campsite at Khare with views of Mera Peak. We spend a day here to acclimatise. Days 14/15 Mera Base Camp Trek to the Mera glacier and ascend to the Mera La Pass (5415m) before making our way to the base camp (5315m). Spend a day preparing

for our summit attempt. Day 16 Advanced Base Camp Trek to advanced base camp located on a rocky island in the middle of the glacier. Day 17 Summit Attempt A long day as we make our way to the summit (6476m) before we descend back to base camp. Days 18/20 Return to Lukla Trek back to Lukla via Thuli Kharka. Days 21/22 Kathmandu Fly back to Kathmandu, free time to explore and relax after the trek. Day 23 Tour ends Kathmandu.

All technical equipment for the climb is included in the price of the tour. Time has been built in to our itinerary to practice rope, ice axe and crampon skills however we recommend you have previous climbing experience to ensure you have the best chance of reaching the summit of Mera Peak.

Accommodation: 4 nights hotels, 18 nights camping. Meals: 23 breakfasts, 18 lunches and 18 dinners are included. Tour staff: Explore Tour Leader, porters, trek crew, driver(s) and local guides. Transport: Bus and internal fl ights. Trekking Details: This is a 18-day trek with an average of 7 to 8 hours of walking each day along forested and mountain trails, reaching a maximum altitude of 6476m. We have graded this trek as tough. Group size: Generally 10 to 16.
