Easy to moderate walking combining the Inca Pilgrim Way in Bolivia with a day trek along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu


Travelling on some of the planet’s highest roads and railways, we traverse the other-worldly Andean landscapes from La Paz to Cusco. Our trip includes a 2-day trek centred around the Island of the Sun on Lake Titicaca, sacred to the Incas of ancient America. We also enjoy a day trek along the Inca Trail via the ruins of Winaywayna and the Sun Gate to Machu Picchu, the ’Lost City’ of the Incas.


14 day tour itinerary


Day 1 Join tour La Paz. Days 2/3 La Paz After exploring the world’s highest capital city, there is time to visit the nearby sites of Tiahuanaco or Chacaltaya. Day 4 Lake Titicaca We drive to Copacabana on the shores of the largest lake in South America. Days 5/6 Isla del Sol Over the next two days we trek the Inca Pilgrim Way visiting ancient ruins and enjoying spectacular views. Day 7 Puno Today we cross the border into Peru. Optional visit to the fl oating Uros Islands. Days 8/10 Cusco Traversing the Andes by bus (or train, optional) via the Sillustani pre-Inca burial ground, we arrive in Cusco, the former Inca capital.


After exploring the town, we head out to nearby Sacsayhuaman and the colourful Pisac market. Day 11 Inca Trail Getting off the train at KM104, we spend a day walking along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, stopping at the Sun Gate for our fi rst view of the majestic site. Day 12 Machu Picchu We explore the citadel with our guide before returning by train back to Cusco. Day 13 Lima We fl y to Lima today where there’s time for a city tour this afternoon (optional). Day 14 Tour ends Lima.

Trekking Details: Walking the Inca Pilgrim Way is relatively easy, though bear in mind the altitude. The walk to Machu Picchu takes about 5-6 hours and involves a lot of ascent so this trek is graded as moderate. Group size: Generally 14 to 18.
