Day walks from our base in Spain’s lovely Aracena region


Explore the mountain trails of Spain’s unspoilt Sierra de Aracena. Set amid a verdant and rolling landscape we enjoy scenic village to village walks along ancient drover routes. We also hike up to the summit of Cerro San Cristobal for spectacular views over the surrounding area. We stay in a traditional village house, experience rural Andalucian culture and enjoy delicious local cuisine. A relaxed pace tour that uncovers rural Spain in sunny Andalucia.


8 day tour itinerary


Day 1 Join tour Seville airport from where we drive to the village of Castaño del Robledo near Aracena. Day 2 Castaño Walk to Alajár: visit the historic shrine and spectacular viewpoint of the Peña de Arias Montano. Day 3 Three Villages Explore the villages of Navahermosa, Valdelarco and Galaroza on the lesser-visited northern side of the Natural Park. Day 4 High Level Route Climb to the summit of Cerro San Cristobal Peak and walk to the historic village of Almonaster. Admire views over the Sierra and visit the 9th century mosque. Day 5 Free Day

Optional activities include: horse riding, mountain biking or a day trip to historic Seville. Day 6 Jabugo Walk to the village of Jabugo - famous for producing some of the world’s fi nest cured Serrano ham. Explore the towns of Santa Ana, Aguafria and Los Romeros. Day 7 Riverside Picnic Walk to Cortelazor and enjoy lunch at a riverside picnic area. Return to Castaño. Day 8 Drive to Seville airport where the tour ends.

Centre-based accommodation Our ‘posada’ is a converted town house that retains many of its original features, from terracotta fl oor tiles to chestnut roof beams. The thick outer walls keep the house cool in summer and cosy in winter, while the terrace is perfect for the sierra sunshine. There are seven en suite bedrooms and two rooms with private facilities close by. Other facilities include two lounges (one with a large log fi re), a dining room and a small patio and garden.
