Walking among the traditional villages of Eastern Bhutan


The remote Sakteng region in eastern Bhutan has only recently opened up to visitors. We spend fi ve days trekking through the rural highlands and across rolling pastures. The route follows rivers and takes us into forests of spruce and rhododendron. Along the way we experience nomadic life as we meet yak herders and watch traditional folk dancing in Sakteng Village.


17 day tour itinerary


Day 1 Join tour Kathmandu. Day 2 Kathmandu Spend a day exploring the lively bazaars of the Nepalese capital. Day 3 Paro Fly to the Bhutanese town and take a walking tour; visit Ta Dzong, the National Museum of Bhutan. Day 4 Tigers Nest Hike up to the Taktsang Monastery, perched on a cliff face high above the Paro Valley. Drive to Thimpu and explore the capital. Day 5 Punaka Drive to Punaka and explore the magnifi cent Dzong (fortress). Visit the Chimmi Lakhang – mad monk – monastery. Days 6/7 Bumthang Visit the Monarchy Museum in Tongsa and the Yahtra Weaving Centre in Chumey Valley. In Bumthang enjoy a walk through the scenic Jakar Valley and visit the 7th century Jambay Temple. Day 8 Mongar Drive through forests and small villages to Mongar,

Day 10 - 8hrs Joenkhar


a lively town with one of Bhutan’s newest dzongs. Day 9 Tashigang Drive to Tashigang, time to prepare our trekking kit. Day 10 Trek begins From Tashigang, walk to Joenkhar Village (1769m). Day 11 River walk Hike along the Gamri Chh River to Sakteng (2957m). Day 12 Sakteng Explore the nomadic farming village.Take a morning walk to a hillside temple. Enjoy dinner and folk dancing with the locals. Days 13/14 Takti village Leave Sakteng and trek to Phonmey via Takti. Drive back to Tashigang. Day 15 Guwahati Drive to the border at Samdrup Jongkar and transfer to Guwahati. Day 16 Delhi Fly to Delhi, free time to explore. Day 17 Tour ends Delhi.
