SOUTH INDIATREK


This trekking holiday explores the forested mountains and vast tea plantations of South India. We climb Meesapulimalai Peak (2630m) for panoramic views of the region and descend to Periyar National Park. We meet welcoming Tamil mountain-villagers along the route and spend time roaming around the forts and temples of Wayanard.


ITINERARY


Days 1/2 Overnight flight to Bangalore. Days 3/4 Hassan Explore the temple cities of Belur and Halebid. Relax in the village of Hoysala. Days 5/7 Wayanard Visit Madikeri Fort, Raja Seat and Omkareshwar Temple. Drive to Wayanard, the base for a series of nature walks. Optional visits to nearby temples and waterfalls. Days 8/9 Munnar Drive to the charming riverside village of Cheruthuruty and enjoy a free day. Continue to Munnar. Day 10 Trek begins Follow the route above the Silent Valley Estate to the summit of Meesapulimalai (2630m). Day 11 Cliff hut Pass through pine forests and rolling grasslands to the campsite nestled on the mountain cliffs. Day 12 Tamils Trek to the village of Korangani and meet Tamil locals. Day 13 Tea estates Climb through grasslands to Kuzhukhkumalai, the world’s highest tea plantation. Days 14/15 Bodinaykanur Finish the trek in this small picturesque town. Drive to Periyar National Park with time to relax or enjoy a nature walk. Day 16 Drive to Cochin and fly to the UK.
