CAPPADOCIA, TAURUS & ARARAT TREK
From ‘fairy chimney’ rock formations to the snow-covered peak of Mount Ararat, we trek across some of Turkey’s most magnificent landscapes. We hike through the Taurus Mountains to the summit of Mount Embler (3723m). We discover the reputed resting place of Noah’s Ark and climb to the top of Mount Ararat (5165m). We also visit elegant mosques in eastern Anatolia and explore Byzantine architecture in Istanbul.
ITINERARY
Day 1 Fly to Kayseri. Days 2/3 Cappadocia Walk among unusual rock formations and cave cities. Visit the 5th century basilica in Cavusin. Climb to the campsite in the Maden Valley (1900m). Days 4/7 Mountain Trek Trek in the high valleys of the Taurus Mountains. Stop at a series of campsites on the way to the summit of Mount Embler at 3723m. Descend through a landscape of sand-coloured rock and eat lunch in a traditional village house. Drive to Kayseri and take the sleeper train to Erzurum. Day 8 Erzurum Arrive early evening, visit the Minareli and Ulu Mosques. Days 9/12 Mount Ararat Cross the Anatolian Plateau to Dogubeyazit. Discover the reputed resting place of Noah’s Ark just outside of Dogubeyazit. Spend four days trekking up Turkey’s highest peak to the summit at 5,165m. Learn how to use ice axes and crampons. Day 13 Ishak Pasha Palace Descend to Cevirme village. Transfer to Dogubeyazit and visit Ishak Pasha Palace. Drive to Van. Day 14 Istanbul Fly to Istanbul. Enjoy a walking tour of Sultanahmet Square, the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace. Day 15 Fly to the UK.

Trekking Details: This tour includes 9-days trekking with an average of 5–6 hours of walking a day, with a maximum of around 9 hours. We reach a maximum altitude of 5160m with ascents of up to 1100m. A lesson will be given on the use of crampons and axes. We have graded this trip as strenuous to tough.
