TOUBKAL CLIMB


This one week walking tour in the High Atlas culminates in an ascent of North Africa’s highest peak, Jebel Toubkal (4165m). We begin in the valley of Imlil trekking through juniper forests, past Berber villages and over passes climbing steadily to a refuge at Neltner. From Neltner we set out to nearby peaks including an attempt on Toubkal, a rewarding climb with views of the whole Atlas chain.

ITINERARY


Day 1 Fly Marrakech. Day 2 Imlil Valley From the berber village of Imlil (1700m) we climb through juniper forests, passing colourful villages to the Azaden valley and onto Tizi n’Oussem (1850m). Day 3 Aremd A steady ascent takes us to Tizin’Mzik (2489m) before we descend to Aremd (2000m). There is time to explore this traditional settlement. Day 4 Neltner Climb past the holy site of Sidi Chamharouch and onto our base at Neltner (3207m) in the heart of the High Atlas range. Days 5/6 Jebel Toubkal Two days based at Neltner exploring nearby peaks which may include Ouanoukrim (4086m) and Jebel Toubkal itself via the south col; return to Aremd. Day 7 Marrakech Spend a final afternoon among the souks and medinas of the ‘red city’ of Marrakech. Day 8 Fly to the UK

On a clear day we enjoy views from the summit across the Atlas range and over the Sahara Desert. We also explore the souks and medina of the bustling city of Marrakech.

ITINERARY


Day 1 Fly to Marrakech. Day 2 Aremd Drive into the Toubkal Massif to Imlil. Walk to the Berber village of Aremd (2000m) and spend the night in a village house. Day 3 Neltner Refuge Trek to Sidi Chamharouch (2340m); climb to the refuge (3207m). Receive some basic instruction on the use of crampons and ice axes and practice on the surrounding snow-covered slopes. Days 4 Toubkal Massif Climb to the summit Jebel Toubkal (4165m). Enjoy views of the entire Toubkal range before descending to the Neltner Refuge. Day 5 Climb to the summit of Mount Ouanoukrim (4086m), Morocco’s third highest peak. Trek the Tizi-n-Ougane path to reach the summit and enjoy views across the Anti Atlas and the Sahara. Day 6 Tizi-n- Ouanoums Trek to the Tizi Ouanoums pass (3650m) and visit the viewpoint for


spectacular views across Lac D’ifni. Descend to Aremd village (2000m). Day 7 The Red City Trek Walk to Imlil and drive to Marrakech. Explore the souks and medina of the ancient city. Day 8 Fly to the UK.
