EVEREST BASE CAMP & GOKYO


This exhilarating trek combines the challenging Everest expedition route with the beautiful Gokyo lakes. Trekking to the summit of Gokyo Kang we admire impressive glaciers and turquoise waters. We hike through Sherpa homelands, following the classic route to Everest Base Camp and climb Kala Pattar for dramatic views of the world’s highest peak.


ITINERARY


Days 1/2 Overnight flight to Kathmandu. Day 3 Kathmandu Enjoy a guided walk around the old city. Day 4 Trek begins Fly to Lukla. Meet the Sherpa team and trek to Phakding. Days 5/6 Namche Hike to the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar (3440m). Days 7/9 Trek to Macchermo Follow the trail to Gokyo, crossing the Mong La Pass (3992m), through rhododendron forests and scrub juniper to Macchermo (4465m). Day 10 Gokyo Passing several small lakes and reaching the glaciers terminal moraine we climb to Gokyo. Day 11 Gokyo Kang Ascend Gokyo Kang for views of Cho Oyu, Everest and Makalu. Days 12/14 Lobuje Descend through the valley to Pangboche Monastery. Begin climbing again towards Lobuje and the Khumbu glaciers. Day 15 Base Camp Travel along the Khumbu Glacier ridge to the Everest campsite. Day 16 Kala Pattar Climb to the summit (5545m) for views across the South Col. Days 17/19 Lukla Pass through Namche and Monzo. Return to Lukla for rest and relaxation. Days 20/21 Kathmandu Fly to the capital, free to explore. Day 22 Fly to the UK.
