Discover the remarkable string of Cathar castles on this walking tour in France. Trekking through the Ariège and Aude regions we pass pretty villages nestling in the shadows of dramatic castles. We also walk through impressive gorges and visit vineyards along the way.
ITINERARY
Day 1 Fly to Toulouse and drive to Carcassonne. Day 2 Montségur Explore the impressive medieval castle at Carcassonne. Drive into the Pyrenean foothills to the beautiful village of Montségur and visit the citadel. Days 3/4 Gorges de la Frau Walk to the impressive Gorges. Visit the charming town of Puivert and Château de Troubadours. Walk to Bourriège and spend the night in a restored farmhouse. Days 5/6 Corbières Walk to Corbières sur Cinoble stopping at the market town of Rennes le Château and the spa town of Rennes les Bains. Day 7 Duilhac Drive to the Gorges de Galamus and hike to Château de Peyrepertuse. Walk down to Duilhac. Day 8 Château de Quéribus Visit one of the best preserved castles in the region, perched on a needle of rock. Drive to Toulouse and fly to the UK.
