HIGH ATLAS TREK


On this trek we walk through the rugged terrain of Morocco’s highest mountain range. We stay in village houses, meet the local Berber people and discover the wilderness of the High Atlas. We have the option to climb to the summit of Mount Toubkal (4165m), the highest peak in North Africa, and we explore the souks and medina of the ‘Red City’ of Marrakech.


ITINERARY


Day 1 Fly to Marrakech. Day 2 High Atlas Travel to Imlil village. Walk to Aremd. Day 3 Ouanskera village Trek over the Tizi-n-Tamertert pass (2279m) into the Imenane Valley. Day 4 Iabessene village Walk to the remote Berber village through Tachedirt and Tizi- n-Tachedirt (3230m). Spend the night in a Berber village house. Day 5 Oukaimeden Valleys Walk through Tizi Mzlee, Agounss and Tizi-n-Ouatter. Day 6 Oukaimeden Explore the village. There is the option to trek to the summit of Jebel Oukaimeden (3262m) to enjoy majestic views. Day 7 Amskere village Descend through juniper forests and enjoy a picnic by the river. Walk through Tizi-Aguersioual to Amskere. Day 8 Tizi-Oussem village Cross the Tizi-Oudite pass and relax in the village. Day 9 Tamsoult Hike along the Oussem Valley. Day 10 Tizi Aguelzim Trek to the Toubkal refuge. Day 11 Climb Jebel Toubkal The ascent of Mount Toubkal (4165m) is optional. It is a non- technical trek but involves climbing some steep slopes. Day 12 Aremd village Walk to Tizi Ouanoums and see the nearby lake. Relax in Aremd. Days 13/14 The Red City Travel to Marrakech and explore the souks and medina of this iconic city. Day 15 Fly to the UK.

Trekking Details: This is a 10-day trek with an average of 6 hours trekking a day. We walk at altitudes of around 3000m except on the optional ascent of Jebel Toubkal, which rises to 4165m. Most of the trek is along well-defined but rough paths. We have graded this trek as moderate to strenuous and mules carry the luggage.
