INCA PATHWAYS OF CHOQUEQUIRAO


On this trekking trip to Peru we explore the spectacular ‘lost city’ of Machu Picchu. We also follow ancient Inca trails to the settlement of Choquequirao overlooking the mighty Apurimac River – known as the ‘Cradle of God’. Hiking through the Andean highlands we discover the ancient Inca capital of Cusco, the ruins of Saqsaywaman and enjoy walks in the Sacred Valley.


ITINERARY


Day 1 Fly to Lima. Days 2/3 Cusco Explore the ancient Inca capital and visit the ruins at Sacsayhuaman. Optional white-water rafting. Day 4 Sacred Valley Enjoy walks through the river valley and visit the famous Inca terraces at Moray. Day 5 Begin Trek Travel to the town of Cachora and trek to Chiquisca (1750m). Day 6 Chiquisca to Choquequirao Trek along ancient Inca trails, through virgin forest and glaciated peaks to the mountain citadel (3085m). Day 7 Choquequirao Explore the ruins and watch the sun set over the Apurimac Canyon. Days 8/11 La Playa Hike to the coffee-growing region of La Playa. Day 12 Aguas Calientes Trek along the banks of Rio Blanco and across the San Juan Pass to the town of Aguas Calientes at the base of Machu Picchu. Day 13 Machu Picchu Travel to the spectacular ‘lost city’. Take a guided tour of the famous site. Return to Cusco. Day 14 Cusco Explore the ancient Inca capital. Day 15 Lima Fly to the capital. Days 16/17 Overnight flight to the UK.
