KILIMANJARO & SERENGETI SAFARI


On this trip we combine an ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro with a safari in Tanzania’s two most famous wildlife parks. First we trek to Uhuru Peak (5895m), the highest point in Africa, following the quiet Lemosho route. Then we go on safari in the great gamelands of the Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Crater in search of the ‘big five’.


ITINERARY


Days 1/2 Overnight flight to Kilimanjaro and travel to Moshi. Day 3 Kilimanjaro ascent From Lemosho Glades walk through forests to Big Tree Camp (2780m). Day 4 Trek to Shira Camp (3550m). Days 5/6 Northern Ice Fields Trek to Moir hut (4175m) below the ice fields of Kibo. Climb to the camp at Lava Tower (4640m). Days 7/8 Kibo Crater Walk the Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley (4035m). Camp at Barafu Camp (4640m). Days 9/10 Uhuru Peak (5895m) Trek to Stella Point (5700m) and climb to the summit of the Uhuru Peak (5895m). Make a long descent through Millennium Camp (3790m) to Mweka Gate (1630m). Drive to Arusha. Days 11/12 Serengeti National Park Begin safari in some of Tanzania’s most famous gamelands and search for the ‘Big Five’. Optional dawn balloon ride. Days 13/14 Ngorongoro Crater Travel east through the Olduvai Gorge and enter the world’s largest intact caldera in search of game. Days 15/16 Return to Kilimanjaro. Overnight flight to the UK. Note that our trek is 2 days longer than most other Kilimanjaro ascents. This is to maximise your enjoyment and improve your chances of reaching the summit. Please see trip notes for details.

Trekking Details: This is a an 8-day trek with an average of 5 to 7 hours trekking each day except on the ascent of the Uhuru Peak which involves 12 to 14 hours of trekking. Generally we walk at altitudes between 3000m and 5000m and we reach a maximum altitude of 5895m. We have graded this trek as strenuous to tough.
