reland has always punched above its weight on the international fashion circuit with some incredible design talent. Irish designers are not only immensely skilled and passionate about their work they are also
entrepreneurs who have extended their talents beyond fashion and textiles into areas as diverse as jewellery, glassware and home furnishings. Ireland’s leading names in fashion design include such luminaries as
Hong Kong born John Rocha, Louise Kennedy, Orla Kiely, Paul Costelloe, Lainey Keogh, Joanne Hynes, Helen James, Helen McAlinden, Ciaran Sweeney, Deborah Veale, Joan Miller and Quin & Donnelly. Irish designers have dressed some of the most famous women in the world. Louise Kennedy’s client list includes Julianne Moore, Kylie Minogue, Gwyneth Paltrow and Meryl Streep while Helen James has dressed style icons such as Kate Moss and Sarah Jessica Parker. The Quin & Donnelly label is a favourite with celebrities, including Sinead O’Connor, Andie MacDowell and The Corrs. And in the accessories arena world famous Irish milliner Philip Treacy
has designed hats for Alexander McQueen at Givenchy and for Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel. In 2005 he was commissioned to design hats for the wedding of the Prince of Wales to the Duchess of Cornwall and in 2009 he designed a hat for Lady Gaga for the 2009 Grammy Awards. Iconic shoe designer Eileen Shields counts Angelina Jolie, Courtney Cox Arquette, Drew Barrymore and Halle Berry among her many customers. Shields has also been commissioned to custom-make shoes for Eva Longoria for Desperate Housewives and had her shoes featured in the Sex and the City movie. Yasmin Velloza was born in New York City and studied in Dublin at the
National College of Art and Design. Having spent many years designing in China she has now opened studios in both Dublin and Shanghai designing her own label. Her collections have strong Chinese influences and are sold in luxury boutiques throughout Europe, Asia and Australia.
