6. Louis Le Brocquy, often hailed as Ireland’s foremost painter, has exhibited in the Guggenheim in New York and other distinguished galleries. Shown above is the artist in his studio, and on left his oil painting, Traveling Woman with Newspaper, 1947-48, which fetched E1.66m at Sotheby’s in London in May 2000.
7. Robert Ballagh was born in Dublin and is both a painter and designer. His distinctive set designs have graced world stages having designed the set for Riverdance. He also created the opening ceremonies for the Ryder Cup in Ireland in 2006 and the Special Olympics in 2003. He is best known for his pop art style paintings. Pictured below is Homage To Bernadette Greevy, 1978.
