Chinese Political Success in Ireland
Chinese Art Exhibition
The Chester Beatty Library hosts a major exhibition of thirty-eight paintings from one of the world’s finest collections of Chinese art, the Shanghai Museum from February 12 through May 2, 2010. The exhibition includes scrolls and albums by artists active in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties and the early Republican period after 1912.

Chinese Companies in Ireland
Ireland is one of the most open economies in the developed world and IDA Ireland ensures that the country is a global location of choice for many international businesses. Innovativeness and entrepreneurship are the hallmarks of Ireland’s model of the ‘Smart Economy’. Many significant global companies now have bases in Ireland including Siemens, Microsoft, IBM, Intel and pharmaceutical giants Merck, GSK, Helsinn and Takeda. Chinese businesses in Ireland are growing. Guangzhou Company Satir focuses on developing, producing and marketing infrared cameras for industry. In 2008, Satir chose Ireland as their first European operational base the largest outside of China. Bank of China owned BOC Aviation (pictured here) also has a base in Ireland and is Asia’s leading aircraft leasing company, with a fleet of modern Airbus and Boeing aircraft in service with airlines in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and North and South America.

12 Ireland-China Economic Trade Forum
In December 2009, 350 business leaders from the Chinese and Irish business communities gathered in Dublin for the Ireland-China Economic Trade Co-operation Forum organised by the Ireland China Association. The event played host to the biggest-ever Chinese delegation to visit Ireland, with representatives from over 80 Chinese companies taking part. Brian Conroy, Director Asia- Pacific, IDA Ireland commented: “Ireland’s corporate tax-rate and our double-taxation agreement with China, makes it an attractive location for Chinese companies. What we are saying to companies is that Ireland isn’t just a market of four million people – it offers a gateway into the entire European market.”
