University College Cork
University College Cork’s Irish Institute of Chinese Studies & Confucius Institute have fostered significant collaboration with Shanghai University and South China Normal University. The Irish Institute of Chinese Studies at UCC offers many degree and diploma programs in both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Students get to study in China to enhance their ability in spoken and written Chinese language and also improve their knowledge of Chinese.
The UCC Confucius Institute was established in November 2007 in partnership with Shanghai University and the first board meeting took place at Shanghai University in March 2009.
Last October UCC celebrated the 60th Anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and the
30th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Ireland and the People’s Republic of China. Festivities included a reading by Sude, the renowned Shanghai female writer and a photo Exhibition: China and Chinese People: A Journey from 1949 to 2009.
UCC is also the headquarters of the Irish Association for Chinese Teaching and Learning (IACTL), which was established in May 2009.
