8. Ireland’s growing animation talent is being increasingly recognised worldwide. Irish animation company Brown Bag Film’s production of Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty, was nominated for an Oscar in 2010 for Best Animated Short Film.
9. Ireland’s Richard Baneham, who was the animation supervisor for Avatar, was honoured at the British Academy for Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards with the receipt of an Award for Avatar for special effects. Baneham previously worked as animation supervisor on The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King where he oversaw the animation of the character of Gollum.
10. The Tudors is an Irish-Canadian co-production filmed in Ireland and starring Irish Golden Globe winner Jonathan Rhys Myers (pictured centre left). The Tudors is one of the biggest television series to be filmed at Ardmore Studios in Ireland and its success has led to the development of the follow-up production of Camelot.
