hether based in the roots of our traditional heritage or incorporating several genres on a world stage, celebrated music and dance has helped Ireland travel


the world to showcase the wealth of talent available, and helped bring our cultural heritage to far-flung corners of the world. The tradition of dance in Ireland has grown over many


hundreds of years in close association with Irish traditional music with its unique sounds and rhythms. Riverdance ensured that the vibrancy and synchronicity of


Irish dance has been seen the world over – including in China in 2004 and early 2010. The show was first performed on April 30th 1994 during the interval of the Eurovision Song Contest where it received a standing ovation. Since then, Riverdance has toured around 30 countries on four continents and been seen live by over 15 million people. Many more have witnessed the show on TV. Riverdance was the inaugural Western Act in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Irish traditional music is the heartbeat of Irish culture and


history. Played by thousands of musicians across Ireland and around the world, it is a modern tradition too that is very much alive and well and is an instantly recognisable cultural symbol for the people of Ireland. Traditional instruments and melodies have evolved and fused with modern musical forms to create a contemporary music scene that Ireland is proud to export throughout the world. The spectrum of musical talent in Ireland includes well known names such as The Chieftains, Christy Moore, James Galway, The Celtic Tenors, U2, Enya, Van Morrison, The Hothouse Flowers, Westlife and Snow Patrol – to name but a few!
