A question mark is used at the end of a sentence to show that it is a question rather than a statement.
Both of the sentences below are the same, apart from the question mark.
We have no homework. We have no homework?
Discuss
1. How does the inclusion of the question mark change the meaning of the sentence above?
2. Does the tone of your voice change in your delivery of these two sentences?
3. Can you think of any statements that can become a question by adding a question mark?
In dialogue, the question mark will go inside the inverted commas. ‘When will you be home?’ asked Jake. ‘What do we have to do for homework?’ ‘How long is the match?’ Tommy asked.
