KINGDOM 1 Focus on ... plot Plot is the sequence of events in a piece of fi ction that make up the story.
It is essential to plan where a story is going. This is where you need to do some rough work. Make sure you know how your story will end before you start writing. Most stories can be broken down into four main steps that make up the plot structure.
1. Situation: the scene is set, the characters are introduced and the setting is established.
2. Complication: there is a clear problem or conflict that must be overcome. 3. Problem or crisis point: the problem or conflict comes to a head. 4. Resolution: the problem or conflict is dealt with.

Situation
For example: Cinderella
1. Situation: Cinderella is a poor, unfortunate girl surrounded by horrible stepsisters and a cruel stepmother who will not let her attend the ball.
2. Complication: after making a wish to her fairy godmother, Cinderella goes to the ball but has to leave abruptly as the clock strikes midnight. The prince is left longing to know more about his mystery princess.
3. Problem or crisis point: on fleeing the ball, Cinderella leaves behind a glass slipper, the only clue to her true identity.
4. Resolution: the prince scours the kingdom in order to fi nd the owner of the slipper, and eventually fi nds his princess.
