Fiction allows us to enter different worlds. Stories can transport us to other times and places, sometimes real and sometimes imaginary. In order to fully understand fi ction, we must fi rst look at its features.

Read fluently, for understanding and pleasure. Understand the techniques used in story writing. Appreciate and compare different styles of writing. Recognise the features you enjoy in fi ction and use these in your own writing. Use a dictionary and a thesaurus. Identify and use the correct verb and tense in context.
