Think about a book you have read that you enjoyed. Look at the Reviews section on pages 53–54 of Unit 1 to remind yourself how to write a review. Prepare a three- minute oral presentation on your chosen book and make your presentation to your class. You can use visual aids, slideshows or background music to make your presentation more engaging. Remember to discuss the following:
what the story is about (no spoilers!) favourite character and why strengths and weaknesses recommendations.

1. (a) Write a short story in the space provided on pages 42–43 of your Portfolio inspired by one of the following:
‘You just don’t get it!’ Write a story featuring this line. Write a story beginning with the line: ‘I knew straight away that it had been a mistake, but there was no going back.’
Write a story featuring two characters in a car. My favourite time of the day. At the beach.
(b) Use the writing fi ction checklist on page 171 to help you to edit the fi rst draft of your story. When you are happy with your story, write your second draft in the space provided on pages 87–89 of your Portfolio.
