When you start your story it is not enough to just mention the location, you should also try to bring the place to life for your reader. You can do this by appealing to as many of the fi ve senses as you can in your descriptions.

(b) I walked carefully, letting the sun wash over me like hot water from a shower. (c) Bright and vivid colours danced in front of my eyes. (d) The leaves crackled underfoot, while the wind howled and shrieked. (e) Mary tasted the salt on the wind even before the blue waves came into view.
