the total work required by 26.22% (*p<0.05 moringa vs placebo and ****p<0.0001 moringa versus initial) with prominent statistical significance. Through this study, we see the performance of moringa in increasing strength of hair fibres through the significant increase in force required to reach the breaking point. The ‘yield’ region, after strain of 25% was assessed after five applications of placebo and moringa treatments (Figure 5). The placebo treated hair fibre had a 6.28% change from initial, with no statistical significance. The moringa treated hair had a 32.08%

change from initial, with a statistical significance value of ****p<0.0001 versus placebo and initial.

Thus, the moringa treatment increased the force required within the ‘yield’ region, indicating an increased presence and strength of S-S bonds in hair fibres.

Keratin integrity via DSC The keratin integrity of hair fibres was assessed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Double bleached Caucasian hair tresses were treated with a 1% moringa protein incorporated into a protein-free shampoo for application and its performance was compared to a protein-free placebo shampoo. Subsequently, the hair fibres were air-

dried for 24 hours under controlled conditions

at 55 ± 5% relative humidity and 22 ± 2°C. They were then gathered for DSC analysis. Thermal protection was determined through DSC utilizing the Hitachi High- Tech Sciences TA7000 Series Simultaneous Thermogravimetric Analyzer, STA7200, in triplicate, resulting in three sets of data per treatment (equivalent to approximately 10 mg of chopped hair). The value of ΔH was derived from the

integration of the initial endothermic peak within the temperature range of 20°C to 280°C, based on the data acquired from the DSC analysis. DSC has two characteristic bands, one in the 20°C to 200°C region related to
