Aston Chemicals wins SCS Formulate innovation prize
Aston Chemicals has won the annual Laura Marshall Memorial Award for Innovation at the SCS Formulate show in Coventry, UK. The British distributor took the
prize in recognition for its Lotion de l’Ocean concept. The formulation is a zinc-only SPF30 body lotion made with Carbonwave’s Seabalance 2000 upcycled seaweed emulsifier. “Using Seabalance 2000 as the
sole emulsifier, Lotion de l’Ocean provides transparent, zinc-oxide
only, SPF30 protection with a non-greasy skin feel,” said Aston Chemicals technical development manager Lou Graydon (pictured). “Despite being a zinc-oxide
only SPF lotion, Lotion de l’Ocean is transparent on all skin tones,” she added. Also nominated for the 2023

Evonik takes the wraps off sustainable baobab oil
Evonik has launched Ecohance Soft Baobab, a sustainable baobab oil sourced from the Sahel region of Ghana. The ingredient is the latest addition to
Evonik’s Ecohance programme, which offers circular solutions for the cosmetics industry. The high-quality baobab oil is sourced
in collaboration with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification and the Great Green Wall Initiative. Baobab trees grow on poor soil, and tolerate heat and drought, making them essential vegetation for the Sahel and helping to prevent desertification. In addition, Ecohance Soft Baobab is
approved by the FairWild Foundation, which certifies companies and products according to 11 principles and 29 criteria that address ecological, social and economic requirements for sustainable wild collection. The wild harvest baobab fruits are traceable down to the collector. Ecohance Soft Baobab is a perfect
example of how we uphold our core values of environmental and social responsibility,” said Yann d’Hervé, head of Evonik’s Care Solutions business line. The launch of Ecohance Soft Baobab
follows the launch of Ecohance Care PS3, an emulsifier based entirely on olive oil residues, and Ecohance Remo XP, an eco-friendly multifunctional thickener.
