20 IN-COSMETICS GLOBAL FORMULATION LAB PREVIEW
Formulation Lab shapes up for Paris show
Roziani Zulkifli - in-cosmetics Global
The 2024 edition of in-cosmetics Global, the leading global event for personal care ingredients, will be making its grand return to Paris on 16-18 April, and we anticipate this visit to the City of Lights will be the most impressive yet. in-cosmetics Global 2024 will take place at the Expo Porte de Versailles and is set to welcome over 12,500 attendees from across the world, offering unparalleled networking opportunities, cutting-edge product showcases, and speaker sessions that will shape the future of the industry and unlock the beauty trends of tomorrow. Poised to be the vanguard of innovation
and expertise will be the much-anticipated Formulation Lab, proudly sponsored by Brenntag and partnered with Personal Care Global magazine. The purpose-built, fully equipped
laboratories located on the show floor will offer up to 27 interactive, hands-on experiences in formulation techniques and practices, managed and presented by the event’s technical advisor, Lorna Radford, who is an also award-winning cosmetic scientist, founder of Enkos Developments, and member of the Society of Cosmetics Scientists (SCS) education committee. “The Formulation Lab sessions are
meticulously designed to empower visitors with the knowledge and hands-on training that are essential for mastering advanced formulation techniques, all in a live and authentic laboratory setting,” she says. “I feel privileged to contribute to a space
where expertise meets experimentation, providing attendees with invaluable tools to elevate their formulations, and I anticipate this year’s programme will not disappoint.”
Exclusive insights The sessions are specifically tailored for research and development (R&D) and lab staff from cosmetic contract manufacturers, private labels and indie brands. They are designed to maximise the scope of learning, helping formulators gain exclusive insights into working with the latest personal care ingredients. Fuelled by a growing consumer desire for
products that positively impact the planet, the industry has seen remarkable shifts throughout the supply chain, trickling down to the formulators and R&D labs. Each session will reflect some of the most pivotal industry and ingredient trends, not least sustainability, as the

sector charts an unwavering course towards a greener, more sustainable future. Addressing the sustainability-shaped
elephant in the room will be Lena Hansen, sponsor Brenntag’s innovation and application specialist - beauty and personal care EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa), who will embrace the ‘less is more’ philosophy, during her session ‘Bare skin therapy - formulate this sustainable cream with us.’ Hansen will introduce attendees to its
sustainable water-in-oil day facial care formulation with Stephenson’s natural China- and COSMOS-compliant emulsifier, DUROSOFT PG4-O. Harnessing low-energy production, it has a high natural content that embodies eco-consciousness and simplicity by using only a few selected ingredients that provide a light
texture to gently moisturize the face to give it a beautiful, natural glow. Global chemical and ingredients distributor,
Univar Solutions will host two sessions in the Formulation Lab at this year’s event. Monika Ruiz-Golcher, technical specialist, beauty & personal care EMEA, will share tips on processing an upcycled biopolymer and creating an affordable solid emulsion and in her session, ‘How to formulate a face mask in an aqueous stick format?’ Later, Univar’s Rita Hanna, technical specialist beauty & personal care EMEA, will provide insights on preparing attractive formulas that meet current niche and masstige brand marketing briefs in her session ‘How to formulate a hair mask balancing naturality up to 97.4% with a strong efficacy.’
