Perfo A Wide Range of Sensorial Possibilities
It is a common misconception that W/O emulsions are always thick, heavy and sticky. This does not have to be the case. Cithrol PGTL allows t he formulator to get creative and experiment with a large variety of formulation types and sensories.
Cithrol PGTL can be used to create:
High internal phase (HIP) emulsions, which give a light, non-oily skin-feel, whilst helping the formulator formulate
cost effectively
More fluid, sprayable formulations
Traditional thick consumers who (e.g. baby care,
, rich creams – a sensory sought after by may associate this texture with efficacy night creams)
Colour cosmetics, such as foundations
Various formulations containing Cithrol PGTL were analysed by the trained sensory panel at Croda and the results plotted in relation to each other on a scale of light to rich and fluid to viscous.
The resulting plot demonstrated scattered results due to the large variety of sensories displayed by the various formulations.
formulations Extreme Emulsions
A simple W/O formulation, containing 1% Cithrol PGTL and a single oil phase, will be stable with levels of oil and water as shown in Figure 2 bellow.

Pe f rmance Effortless Environmental Impact
In today’s world, as the consumer becomes ever more environmentally conscious
y,, it has never been more important to
consider sustainability and impact on the environment. Cithrol PGTL offers some excellent benefits, including: 100% bio-based
Manufactured without ethoxylates, propoxylates or PEG
Cold-processable (formulation dependant) c
Four benchmark emulsifiers were also investigated, and it was found that onlyp
y one benchmark passed the 91.7% water limit.
All benchmarks failed when the oil phase was at 19%. These results indicate that Cithrol PGTL has great versatility
and is suitable for use in a wide range of formulations with a spread of water and oil content.
Cithrol PGTL can be used in formulations with a variety of sensories
