Where there is a strong regulatory framework in esports, this mitigates the risks of fraud, match-fixing, and disputes, which
otherwise leave both bettors and operators exposed. In 2023, one leading integrity organisation monitoring integrity flagged 46
suspicious esports matches, up from 36 the previous year, with most cases coming from Europe and Asia.
Which regulatory authorities would you judge as being the gold standard for legal standards in esports betting? Conversely, which authorities require the greatest area for improvement and refinement to their standards?
Te Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) is widely regarded as the gold standard in esports betting regulation. Established in 2016, ESIC has developed comprehensive frameworks to combat the issues of match- fixing and cheating, ensuring the integrity of esports competitions. In contrast, regulatory approaches vary significantly across jurisdictions. In the UK, for example, esports betting falls under the same rigorous standards as traditional sports betting, with oversight from the UK Gambling Commission.
However, in the United States, regulation is handled state-by-state, creating a more intricate environment for operators to navigate. As a supplier operating worldwide, we aim to establish communication channels with regulators to help them understand exactly what our product is, how it relates to esports and the safeguards that are baked in to protect operators and bettors alike.

What are the advantages of being a non-tournament esports provider from a regulatory perspective?
One of our biggest advantages in our non-tournament model is the level of control it provides. All matches are produced internally using our own infrastructure, enabling consistent quality and compliance with sportsbook requirements. By avoiding reliance on third-party tournaments, we can minimise unpredictable variables, such as inconsistent rules, suboptimal scheduling, or participant verification. Instead, we have oversight of every element of each contest. It is six years since we launched Competitive Gaming and, in that time, we have gained the trust of regulators and operators alike all over the world. It is a fully managed solution designed from the ground up to support the needs of sportsbooks and we have a body of evidence – including the ESIC Gold Standard – that we can show to regulators.
Games such as CS:GO, NBA 2K and EA Sports FC are often updated with new patches that change gameplay mechanics and team dynamics, rendering previous data obsolete. What challenges does this pose for trading and betting market liquidity?
