Tere are several differences, and in some ways, it’s simpler because you're building on existing developments. When creating a game from scratch, there are many more tasks to handle – from conceptualising ideas and analysing the market to considering the local audience, regulations, and technical flow. With a sequel, you already have some base and a clearer understanding of the markets where the first game was popular, which helps in determining where players expect its sequel. We also have a better understanding of those players – their culture, regulations, and which mechanics are popular in those markets. Tis means we can more effectively enhance the sequel and tailor it to meet their expectations.
In other words, when creating sequels, providers have more input data which simplifies the process. However, there are also some challenges. For example, if the first game was particularly successful, players will expect a grand sequel, which adds excitement. So, we focus a lot on resonating with players' expectations. Te examples mentioned before demonstrate how sequels can exceed all anticipations.
How does the development team boil a game down to decide what stays and goes from one game to the next? For instance, how does Hot Triple Sevens Hold and Win differentiate from Hot Triple Sevens Special – yet both remain true to the original title?
When creating a sequel, our goal was to upgrade the original game, equipping it with mechanics that are currently popular

among players. What remains and what is changed in the new game is decided by the creative team, led by the game producer. Various factors influence these decisions, but the primary goal in this case was to ensure the updated version matched current market trends and player expectations.
For this purpose, we upgraded it with the popular Hold & Win mechanics. While the setting remains similar and the theme stays true to the classic sevens, the mechanics have been modernised with more bonuses and additional features. We also made the animation smoother, enriched the design, and updated the game interface.
Gameplay-wise, are features and bonuses the primary means of introducing greater gameplay variety whilst maintaining core mechanics? Is it down to mathematical models and game engines?
Tere are different approaches – you can simply change the mathematical model within one title, where the mechanics remain the same, but the number of winning combinations increases, for example. Tat is, the balance of the game actually changes. However, at Evoplay, we also use a different approach. We focus on changing core mechanics and gameplay, introducing more novelty to give the player a fresh experience. Tis is clearly demonstrated in the above- mentioned Hot Triple Sevens Hold & Win slot or in instant games – the Penalty Shoot-out series.
