In July 2024 the City of Buenos closed the registration for new licenses for betting operators and suspended all agreements with potential operators. Te government announced that it would ensure that companies have a registration process that verifies the age of bettors and prohibits minors from accessing online gambling sites.


"Betting is not a game" a study conducted in 360 locations


across the 24 provinces of Argentina and prepared by a team lead by Deputy Constanza María Alonso found that 44% of young people in Buenos Aires Province gamble or have gambled at least once. A 2024 survey by UNICEF Argentina and Digital Wellbeing showed that 40% of adolescents and young adults interviewed had gambled online at least once as well. Within this group, 37% do so frequently or daily.


RESTRICTING ONLINE GAMBLING IN BUENOS AIRES Te problem has become so severe that the Buenos Aires city government has blocked gambling sites on the Internet network of public schools. "Today, students during recess have swapped football balls


and collectibles for betting on their cell phones. And that's dangerous. Online betting is one of the most serious issues in schools,” the mayor of the city of Buenos Aires Jorge Macri said after a meeting with experts in gambling addiction last year. Additionally, Players Anonymous now accepts minors under 18. Groups attended by players and their families are also beginning to see adolescents as young as 14 or 15 seeking help. Tis has also led to changes to the way online platforms

Since June new license registration has been closed, and


all agreements with potential operators have been suspended. No new operators can be added. Together with the Lotería de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (LOTBA), stricter
