Sequels often come with a different theme and/or tone. How important are soundscapes in bridging the original with new aesthetics and gameplay?
We strongly believe in the power of audio cues. Te reel-spin noise and win chime from the first game are things some player favourites. So, we kept those core sounds in Fortune Gems 2 and 3, making sure fans immediately recognise that “this is still Fortune Gems. We add new layers of soundscapes to match different themes so locating Fortune Gems 2, in a jungle temple allowed us to incorporated drum beats and tribal ambiance to fit the visuals. Committed players are our most dedicated audience. Tey expect any sequel to preserve the essence of the original. If we completely replaced the core gameplay or style, they might feel alienated. Whenever we promote a sequel release, we emphasise continuity. We also create sequels to open new markets. Our strategy of partnering with key local operators also influences our localisation so, in Latin America, players who did not know Fortune Gems still engaged fully with the sequels as they were designed to connect with the local audiences.
