Game Sequels

When creating Fortune Gems sequels we deliberately keep the core gameplay intact. However, each maths’ model is critical. Every time we add a new feature that changes the potential payouts - bigger multipliers, splitting symbols, or a bonus wheel - our team of mathematicians recalibrates the RTP, volatility, and payout distribution; so if the Lucky Wheel is unbalanced, other areas need reassessing to ensure the entire experience remains fair and still exciting.

How is the creative process for a sequel different from that of an original title? Are there different considerations concerning the use of game data, player feedback and market research?

With the first Fortune Gems, we based decisions on market trend analysis, team experience and some creative intuition. Our aim: How can we stand out from other slots on the market? Tere was bit of gut instinct going on. Once we can access real data and player feedback from a first game, developing a sequel becomes much more focused. If player feedback is positive about the multiplier reel, we keep it. Data and player feedback lead the decision making. We track real- world performance data and user response to every feature or mechanic.

With multiple requests for more substantial bonus moments, we add, and this is why we built in the Lucky Wheel in Fortune Gems 2. We also undertake competitor analysis; what’s working well and what’s trending in various regions. In Latin America players enjoy vibrant visuals and ancient civilisation themes so we factor that into our localisation for shaping sequel theme and art style.

How does the development team boil a game down to decide what stays and goes from one game to the next? For instance, how does the third game in the series, Fortune Gems 3, differ from Fortune Gems 2 - yet both remain true to the original title?

Te main driver is “Keep the core, innovate on the details”. Te 3x3 reels plus the side multiplier reel are signature components. Tey give the series its distinctive identity; players see that setup and instantly recognise Fortune Gems. Specific differences in Fortune Gems 2 focus on bonuses like Lucky Wheel, whereas Fortune Gems 3 uses symbol-splitting to deliver surprises in regular spins. We want each title to have

a distinct new hook while retaining the same fundamental simplicity. Te consistent use of the Garuda emblem, gem- style visuals, and 3x3 layout ties them all together.

Gameplay-wise, are features and bonuses the primary means of introducing greater gameplay variety whilst maintaining core mechanics? Is it down to mathematical models and game engines? A mixture of all these things?

We expand gameplay depth by layering on new features.

We also have to work to keep the game integrity. Fortune Gems is built around a straightforward 3x3 setup, so any additional features need to work seamlessly with this engine. We wouldn’t implement cascading reels or complex multi-reel expansions that clash with the series’ identity. Instead, we focus on features that complement and enhance like multiplier reels or symbol changes.

Visually, how have new technologies enabled continual graphical improvements across the series? Are updates to graphical sharpness and animation smoothness noticeable with each iteration?

We constantly upgrade our art resources and tools. When we launched the original Fortune Gems, HTML5 was cutting-edge for that time. But technology evolves quickly: By the time we developed Fortune Gems 2 and 3, we had access to more
