No Fixes, Just Fixtures High-Integrity Esports Betting
Esports betting has historically faced challenges in integrity and transparency, particularly in lower-tier tournaments. Andy Purkiss, Chief Operating Officer at SIS, explains how Competitive Gaming addresses these concerns with a fully managed, ESIC-accredited esports product, ensuring controlled match production, professional player contracts, and real-time monitoring to align with the rigorous standards of traditional sports betting.
Compared to more established betting verticals such as sports betting and iGaming, does esports lack the same level of scrutiny and transparency?
At SIS, we have developed Competitive Gaming as a fully managed, in- house esports product tailored specifically for sportsbooks with a focus on integrity. With full control over match production, player contracts, scheduling, and data, we provide operators with a transparent, trusted solution that aligns with the standards expected in traditional sports betting. Additionally, SIS is fully compliant with ESIC integrity guidelines and was the first provider in the industry to receive this prestigious accreditation for our Competitive Gaming product.
In comparison, some lower-tier esports tournaments, however, have historically faced integrity challenges, and scrutiny and transparency can be lacking when set against professional sporting competitions. Tere have been well-publicised instances of match-fixing and the use of unverified or even unknown players, which brings with it trading challenges and ramps up risk. In some cases, oversight is minimal, making it difficult to ensure fair play or operator trust. Tis has a direct impact on the reliability of esports betting products and contributes to understandable hesitancy from operators.
Top-tier tournaments are typically more of an appetising prospect for operators, but it has to be remembered as well that esports competitions are still in their infancy, and it will take time for the highest levels of integrity to percolate right down to the lower tiers.
Tat is why SIS Competitive Gaming stands apart. It is not built on third- party tournaments, but on a fully governed, end-to-end model designed to provide sportsbooks with the same level of trust, consistency, and integrity they expect from other established betting verticals.

What do less comprehensive regulations mean for potentially exposing bettors and operators to risks and disputes? Have there been any recent high-profile examples?
SIS Competitive Gaming was created to address the concern of risks and disputes head-on. Our product is delivered in a controlled environment with full internal oversight, matches are produced in secure studios, featuring professional contracted players, and overseen by ESIC trained referees and trading teams in real time. We also operate in line with strict regulatory frameworks and hold multiple licences for this product, giving operators the assurance that risk is tightly managed.
Where there is a strong regulatory framework in esports, this mitigates the risks of fraud, match-fixing, and disputes, which otherwise leave both bettors and operators exposed. In 2023, one leading integrity organisation monitoring integrity flagged 46 suspicious esports matches, up from 36 the previous year, with most cases coming from Europe and Asia. One high-profile incident involved Singaporean Valorant player Malcolm "Germsg" Chung, who was jailed for four months after intentionally underperforming to settle a gambling debt.
Tese examples highlight the serious consequences of weaker regulation and the importance of oversight. Without consistent and robust standards, the credibility of esports as a betting product is at risk and could potentially damage confidence, which could hinder fan engagement and long-term commercial viability of esports betting for operators.
By contrast, SIS offers a safer path forward. Our structure avoids the uncertainties that come with open tournament ecosystems, making SIS Competitive Gaming a stable and compliant product operators can truly rely on.
