Amber Tomlin, Key Account Manager for the UK for Philips Selecon and Strand Lighting said: “We’re delighted that Mareel will be using our SPX profi les and Aurora Cyc fl ood luminaires for both profes- sional applications and to train the next generation of technicians. SPXs fully exploit the output and successfully deal with the high heat associated with the latest generation compact fi lament 800W lamps. Also, because the SPX features a compartmentalised lamp house, which effectively exhausts hot air away from the most heat sensitive components, lamp and lamp socket life is maximised thus reducing down time and associated costs for maintenance.” Additional cabling and design work was undertaken by another Edinburgh-based company - Audio Light Systems. Project Engineer, Steve Aitchison over saw his team on site for a number of months from 2009. He said: “In the main auditorium and throughout the building our job was to do the cabling and all the facility panels and tie lines that included extensive use of Cat 6 links. There are around 30 facility panels and stage boxes in the main auditorium. We designed the panels, installed the cabling and did all the termination. We also did the lighting control systems, for the ETC sensors and dimmers. The install from start to fi nish took about two years. It is a sophisticated system that is now in place. Considering we managed to achieve this in the location is pretty impressive. The end result is a fantastic building that is very versatile and they now have the facility to do some very good gigs. The acoustics and infrastructure are all in place to make the venue a huge success. I am sure that will happen so all in all it was an extremely exciting project to work on.” The PA system in the main performance space is a d&b audiotechnik Q system supplemented by d&b audiotechnik MAX wedges, and control from two Midas PRO2 consoles. A Klark Teknik DN9650 net- work bridge allows for live recording via MADI into a Pro Tools HDX system in the recording studio. And there is an enviable selection of microphones including Shure, Sennheiser, Neumann, AKG and Schoeps. Mareel’s Iain summarised: “The aim throughout, both
