CLUB 360º Set within the Jumeirah Beach Hotel complex at the end of its very own pier, Club 360º offers, as its name would suggest, panoramic views of the Burj Al Arab, the Arabian Gulf, Dubai’s city centre and the Jumeirah Beach Hotel itself. Occupying two fl oors of indoor and outdoor space, 360º combines stylish, minimalistic design with a contemporary colour scheme, chic furnishings and a state-of-the-art lighting concept, as well as an integrated audio system that allows two DJs to perform at the same time on both levels. When the time came to give 360º a facelift, Jumeirah Beach Hotel turned to Paul Davies, Technical Director at Litepros lighting and visual system integration company, for his assistance. “360º was originally a seafood restaurant on the ground fl oor with a rooftop bar and lounge area above,” said Paul. “A redevelopment had been scheduled for sometime and Jumeirah asked me what could be done in conjunction with the interior design to integrate all the systems with a complex interior lighting scheme and generally improve the downstairs space. “At fi rst we were under quite a bit of pressure from the DJs concerning the upstairs space as they like the existing sound system and we were under pressure to keep the same brand. However, acoustically on the ground fl oor, the space itself is quite challenging as it is very narrow, it’s circular and it’s got some very heavy refl ective surfaces.” Paul looked at several solutions but decided on the Tannoy VXP powered solution, with each loudspeaker coming equipped with
Lab.gruppen’s IntelliDrive energy effi cient amplifi er (IDEEA) module built in. “We went for Tannoy VXP 15HPs with some VS 15BP subwoofers spread around the room, fi ring inwards to avoid refl ections,” said Paul. “This produced the right results needed for the room, and interestingly enough, the resistance we faced from the DJs and production staff disappeared once the job was fi nished and they were able to hear the system. They were surprised at the kind of sound and fl exibility we were able to achieve and now that they have got used to the system, the warmth in the sound and the way it all works together within the circular room, they have become

very happy with it and we’re now talking about replacing the system upstairs with offerings from Tannoy. “The client has been very happy with the system we installed,” continued Paul. “It’s a complete package, including extremely complex lighting control with a kilometre of LED in there and 1,680 channels of dmx all integrated, some moving heads, some static lights and some general dimming for the architectural lighting and all this is integrated with the audio, where we’re triggering various scenes with the audio.” Commenting on his decision to use Tannoy, Paul said: “I’ve used Tannoy and known of them for a long time. I’ve done several projects before, all different kinds, but in this case it was simply a question of fi nding something that suited that particular bar. The Tannoy VXP solution worked perfectly from a performance and coverage point of view. It is a compact box, plus with the amplifi cation on board it made it a very simple solution to a complex question and fi tted easily into the Biamp Nexia system we are using to control it all.” According to Paul, Tannoy loudspeakers offer a fl exible solution. For instance the new low profi le VSX subwoofers, which fi t under seats, make them ideal for the current trend of lounge bars or venues that turn into a nightclub environment in the evening. “Even Tannoy’s in-wall loudspeakers are great quality,” he said. “I’ve done some high-end home cinemas with those and with the dual 10s, it’s a great system. With Tannoy, you know that you are getting that high level of innovation and sound quality across the different ranges.”
