More than 40 workshops, lighting showrooms and audio classrooms hosted by exhibitors took place during this year’s Siel. On day two of the show, more than 150 visitors had the opportunity to attend Luc Lafortune’s conference, Lighting Designer for Cirque du Soleil. He spent more than three hours sharing his career experiences, techniques and anecdotes about shows ‘Ka’ and ‘O’.

This year’s show also saw four industry personalities receive a trophy of honour: Dan Bävholm, co-founder of Lab.Gruppen; Daniel Colling, creator of the Printemps de Bourges; Jean-Pierre Ferrandon, Link director; and Luc Lafortune, lighting designer of the Cirque du Soleil. Siel is defi nitely a French show for the French market and although international brands were represented, it was generally through the presence of a distributor. Vis- itor numbers may not have been near the 9,000 mark but most exhibitors mond*dr spoke to seemed happy with the quality of visitors that had made the effort to attend. As this was the third French trade show I had attended in as many months, my feel- ing about Siel is that it has a wider scope of visitor compared to JTSE, which is much more theatre-led and MICS, which aims for the international clubbing market, and is a good show to attend if you’re looking to penetrate the wider French market.

Siel 2014 will take place from 10-12 February at the Grande Halle de la Villette. For more info visit: www.siel-expo.com
