The proper value for a relatively accurate evaluation is given by the dis- tribution of the water volume flowing on the slopes. In this case other results are obtained, much more improved than those previously mentioned.


Conclusions In the Siret and Prut river basins, the water resources are differentiated


as a result of the climatic differentiations and of the peculiarities of the surface flow and of the underground flow. The Siret, with its main tributaries in the mountain area, has quite enough resources, while the Prut is characterized by lower values especially in the Moldavian Plateau where the climatic aridiza- tion tendencies cause a significant flow diminution. More than that, the Prut river has a peripheral position in the eastern part of Romania, and the drawing of a water volume to the interior is extremely expensive. A part of this source should be shared with the Republic of Moldavia, as the river has a trans- border position.


In order to ensure a sustainable development of water resources, the


following directions should be considered: •

the knowledge, conservation, use, rationalization, restoration, and capitalization of water resources


protection of water resources and of aquatic ecosystems; the safe exploitation, maintenance and development of infrastructure of the National System of Water Management;


realization of the whole complex of hydrological, hydro-geological and quality observations and measurements;


elaboration of hydrological diagnosis and prognosis as well as of specific studies


the realization and management of the national base of hydrological, hydro-geological and water management data;


fast warning and action in order to prevent and eliminate the effects of flooding, meteorological phenomena and accidental pollution;


information, authorization and control of the water consuming or non consuming utilities, of the works built on waters or related to waters, irrespective of the holder;
