Fight in the market of images is very severe, and very often the image created at the local level is the objective one. In the local/global relationship a separate category is being constituted
of the image creators, which have possibility of getting to know a region, of splitting it, and of retaining as much its characteristics as possible in order to let them to circulate afterwards through the mass-media. Their objectivity is extremely important, because here the greatest distortions can result, hav- ing effect on the potential point of the localization of the global, on the compe- tition between urban settlements, on the attracting investments etc. as for the latter aspect, we suppose that urban image is extremely important against a background of the general facilities. Attractiveness of a region depends on the community’s capacity to integrate and distinguish values, to guarantee them un discriminated environment. Characteristics of the regional communities, materialized in the solutions, which are adopted in the management of space, in general behavior, and in the rapid reaction to change are essential in inter- national competition and cooperation. Effects of the regional image can be extremely different, contributing to
the realization of feelings of approving, repulse or indifference. Correspond- ingly, we can talk about the repulsive, attractive or indifferent region. Ex- tremely negative image serves as a basis of the repulsive region; it is deter- mined by many elements, among which are the following: criminal situation, increased ratio of socially marginalized people, air and water pollution, bad state of physical infrastructure, decreased welfare standards, reflected in physiognomy of corresponding space and in the behavior of its inhabitant. Attractive local/regional has a positive image determined by the in-
creased standards of the main aspects of life, in general. Attractiveness and repulsion can be temporary or even can alternate, depending on the events occurring in the certain space, on the way in which crises are being solved, on the duration of the prosperity periods. In the process of benefiting from strengths and reducing weaknesses,
of the creation of constructive urban image, an important filter intervenes, which is represented by mass-media. It can conduct creating of certain image through highlighting different key points in the analysis, which circulate on the information “autobahn”. Thus, it can support construction of a cosmetized im- age of certain topophil spaces or, conversely, can promote some spaces known as topophobe. Because competition between spaces is very strong, as a result of altering of images of some spaces others can be promoted and vice versa.
2. Ethnic groups/minorities and regional image. Theoretically
speaking relationship between ethnic groups and image of certain region mostly depends on the relationships existent between corresponding mi- norities and majority. If between minorities and majority profound coopera- tion, mutual respect of history and cultural values exists, then coherence ca-
