tribution of the index of the demographic attractiveness were to be found in 1990 – 2005, as numerous characteristics and consequences.

The severe decrease of the rural- urban flow between 1990 – 1991 and its constant position at superior values of the urban – rural flow between 1990 – 1996. Between 1996 – 2005, the residence movements from rural to urban areas were numerous.

The intensity of the migratory flows and the residence movement was bal- anced; after 1991, the effects were the increase in the number of peo- ple rejected from the urban area, from the labour market and who re- turned in the districts near the cities.

The residence movements of the population were determined by the so- cial rejection known as a consequence of the disorders and the eco- nomic and social insufficiencies which led

to dismissals, unemploy-

ment and early retirement. Firstly, the social rejection based on unem- ployment was stronger in the north – eastern, south-eastern and south- western developing regions. The best examples to illustrate where it could be found are Covasna, Buzau, Salaj, Tulcea, Brasov, Caras- Severin, Suceava. On the other hand, the lowest values that could be found were in Bistrita – Nasaud, Satu Mare, Arad, Brasov, Giurgiu, Alba and Bucharest. Secondly, the social exclusion, because of the dismissal, made its presence more obvious in getting down the values of the migratory total and the index of the demographic attractiveness in Dobrogea, Oltenia, Banat, Muntenia- especially in the following dis- tricts, like Bistrita-Nasaud, Harghita, Bacau, Giurgiu, Dambovita, Ca- larasi, Alba, Arad, Valcea – had lower values below the average.

The long distance migration from 1990 – 1991 was replaced by the short distance mobility, starting from 1992 when the migration between the districts developed, especially after 1995.

The areas that could include a greater number of residents in terms of demographic attractiveness have included Bucharest and some dis- tricts , as it follows: Timis, Arad, Cluj, Prahova, Dambovita, Valcea, Ar- ges, Constanta, Satu Mare, Mures. The migratory rate of the residence movements for people aged between 20 -24 years old and 25 – 29 years old, has the highest value, whereas the level of residence changes has decreased constantly for 35 year old people; obviously the figures decrease for 60-year old people.

The facts that caused a more obvious migration between 1990 – 1991 were based on the economic decline in addition to the personal reason which had been determined by variations of marriage rates. The main geographic areas (between 1990 – 2005) which received the newcomers were Bucharest and districts like Ilfov, Constanta, Arad. On the other side, the districts

people left were Vaslui, Hunedoara, Teleorman, Maramures, Botosani, Bistrita-Nasaud, Olt. 117
