offering us, among others, a critical/annotated edition of “Terra” monumental work of the founder of Romanian geography accompanied by a separate vo- lume dedicated to S. Mehedinti, the one that remarked in the ‘30s of the ended century the beginnings full of substance of the prodigious and incom- parable scientific carrier; I remember how for many times he told me how much work he did to bring again in our view the most significant paper of the Romanian geography and what kind of illiberalities accompanied the process of re-editing.


He had the strength to survive these tests and others too (including the ones related to the forced expatriation of his two wonderful children, Mircea and Astrid) and to enjoy after 1990 of the official recognition of his merits, including his receiving in the Romanian Academy. And now, after eight years since his death, I still see him in the house from Jean Texier Street or in the one from NIcolae Titulescu Avenue seated at the working table sur- rounded by the book of the appreciated library, assisted now and then by the gentle and attentive look of Madam Liliana (Luli, as he named her) writing with his round, calligraphic, inimitable handwriting the pages that contoured the work of the most complete man among Romanian geographers. I am con- vinced that this last appreciation does not meet the assent of our coevals. The geographers that had the privilege to spend more time near him to promote the scientific and human heritage of the professor who, before everything, was a great MAN, a component to which we report when we reflect at our role on this Earth.
