taining cultural and spiritual life for consolidation of the corresponding ethnic communities. From this point of view, many of Moldavian cities have been des-ethnicizied (Dorohoi, Botoşani, Bârlad, Vaslui, Roman etc.). The similar situation is observed in the most of villages and even cities (e.g., Jimbolia) in Banat, which German population has massively emigrated from. Ethnicization is, depending on the existence of the critical “ethnic”


mass, first of all, a social and cultural process. From this point of view very many arguments pro and contra tied up with des-ethnicization of other ethnic groups, such as Hungarians, before 1989, exists. Have real effects of ethnic mixing process on the ethnicity, through the adding Romanian population as a result of extensive industrialization been observed? To what extent has the loose of culture and weakening of cohesion of local communities resulted form these immigrations been observed? Whether it was a coordinated or quasi-general process, observed to have even more effects in other Transil- vanian areas (Timiş, Arad, Cluj, or Braşov)? Detailed studies can better show- up differences. But at least one thing is undoubted: the policy implemented by the totalitarian regime was not just antiethnic, but anti Romanian as well. The processes currently occurring are those of cultural consolidation


of certain ethnic groups and even of ethnicization, if we consider amazing in- crease of the population of gypsies and efforts made towards finding their cul- tural and spiritual identification. After finding identification in the spoken lan- guage and writing, gypsies can be consolidated quickly and can contribute to the increase of economic and cultural heritage of Romania. 3) The direct and indirect ethnic influence on territorial migration. A could-be relationship between foreign investments and ethnic struc- ture? Theoretically, great distance migrations of some ethnic groups can cre- ate a favourable image, encouraging the global localization process in Roma- nia. The recurrence of some images created under various circumstances is extremely powerful, so that the change of the initial image needs time and very strong arguments. Because of this, the role played by the international migration of some ethnic groups is probably minor for the rehabilitation of cer- tain images.
