ABTA is the UK’s largest travel trade association, representing travel agents and tour operators responsible for £31.5 billion worth of holidays and other travel arrangements each year. It plays a key role in setting standards for the industry and providing consumers with schemes of financial protection and a dispute resolution service, so they can travel with confidence. We have a small staff of 70 people in varied roles and work very closely with our ABTA Partners in the education sector.

Isabel O`Riordan Business and marketing assistant, ABTA LifeLine

Isabel has worked for ABTA’s charity, ABTA Lifeline, since April 2014. ABTA LifeLine (abtalifeline.org.uk) is ABTA’s charitable trust. Previously called the ABTA Benevolent Fund, it was set up to help people in the travel industry when they need it the most. There are different elements that make up the charity and they determine her responsibilities day to day. The most important element are the people the

charity helps. Part of her daily role is going through applications and speaking with potential applicants to determine the best way we can help them. Another part is fundraising. Isabel is constantly looking for new and exciting events – from marathons to bake-offs – to raise money for the charity; she’s hoping to organise a sky dive next! Isabel studied history at Oxford Brookes

University. After uni she took an internship for Macmillan Cancer Support and then worked for a digital start-up that had built an online booking system for boutique hotels and B&Bs. The ABTA LifeLine

role combines both her charity and travel experience. Isabel enjoys

working in an industry that will always have relevance and which changes as demands change.
