The opportunity to explore the world and have fun doing it is just one of the great parts of landing certain jobs in the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. We spoke to a few people who are living the dream.
Louise Burton Intrepid Travel, adventure sales consultant
Louise’s father worked for an airline and growing up she visited many countries. She recently returned to her sales role in Alton, Hampshire, after three months’ travelling, as she won Intrepid’s first travel scholarship.
"
The scholarship was open to the whole company – you had to describe in 100 words or less why you wanted to do it and what you could offer. This is my dream job – to travel, take photographs and
blog about exciting experiences and people. I made a video on the marketing potential of sending me. I spent time in Intrepid’s Melbourne head office and went to
Burma, Indonesia and Central America. I have a degree in printed textile design and had waitress
and customer service roles before hearing about a role at Intrepid from a friend. During the interview, I made a
presentation about my travel experiences, in the style of an Intrepid brochure. I spend 25% of my time completing
blogs, creating presentations for sales teams and organising my photos and videos. I want to go into marketing, but

wouldn’t say no to being sent on the road again.”
An overseas and UK challenge leader with Global Adventures Challenges, Alex previously served as a Royal Marines commando in Afghanistan, Norway and the US. Global Adventure Challenges employs him to manage fundraising treks and cycle rides.
"
Living in Plymouth is ideal and I work on Dartmoor for outdoor providers on adventurous activities, such as climbing, kayaking, coasteering and gorge walking. Groups range from young children and stag groups to
elderly clients. I conduct first aid training for organisations and hostile
environment courses for journalists and military contractors. I led a marine biology study of loggerhead turtles in Turkey;
a mountain expedition to Uganda; and a three-week jungle- based expedition to Borneo. I am in control of where and
when I work. Working with Global Adventure Challenges gives me a great sense of humility when seeing how much people put themselves through to raise money for causes close to their hearts. Some have overcome illness or put themselves through great pain for the sake of someone else’s health.”
