Zaneta Jezewska, 22 works as a team leader at Haven’s Devon Cliffs holiday park in Devon “I moved to the UK from Pieszyce, a small town in the south of Poland, three years ago and took up my first-ever job in tourism at Haven’s Seaview holiday park in Weymouth before moving to Devon Cliffs. When I started work my English was not very good but I persevered and progressed every season and this season have reached the position of team leader. I love the learning opportunities this job has given me and I’ve signed up for the team leader Level 2 qualification. What I love most about my job is working somewhere that has so many children laughing and having fun, and also working alongside my team at the Mash and Barrel bar and restaurant here at the park.”
Ainsley Ferns, 19 is a Modern Apprentice in the package holidays department in Barrhead Travel’s Glasgow Superstore “I had been accepted for a travel & tourism course at college, but a friend who already worked for Barrhead Travel suggested their Modern Apprentice scheme instead. I jumped at the chance to go straight into work and earn while I learned. I’ve been in the package holidays department ever since and I love it. We never stop learning here! I’ve received a lot of on-the-job coaching, as I have a mentor in the department who was a Modern Apprentice himself, and my manager is always close by to help if I need it. The company invests a lot of money in making sure everyone is well-trained and up to date with travel developments, and we also receive training from suppliers.”
Tanya Parry, 22 is a sales consultant in Chester on Travelbag’s graduate programme “After completing a degree in event management, I sought a challenge that incorporated my passion for planning and tailoring experiences with my love of travel and culture. The sales consultant development programme with Travelbag was perfect as it allows me to work in the industry while also receiving comprehensive training and support. The role is very target driven, which presents challenges but ultimately huge rewards. I have learnt so much already, including the use of booking systems, knowledge of product, airline contracts and net fares, and I’m continually developing my sales technique. In the future I intend to transfer the knowledge gained from my current position to a role within product development.”
