She studied for a one-year National Diploma and two-year BTEC in Travel and Tourism at Northampton College “I absolutely loved my three years at Northampton College, and the best bit was the college trips. The skills I gained from the course were incredibly im- portant for the path I’ve now gone down. I gained confidence in myself and in problem solving while carrying out role plays and presentations, and self- motivation by making sure I got my assignments in on time. I’m currently cabin crew for British Air- ways, which I absolutely love. I would recommend Northampton College to others as it offers a wide range of courses. The Travel and Tourism course is a great way of learning about the industry.”
Sam McKay is content executive at Thomas Cook in Pe- terborough and studied Travel and Tourism Management at the University of Derby “My time at university really helped me with my career path, and it enabled me to gain the necessary skills that I needed to get a job in the travel and tourism industry. Only when I got to university did my passion for social media and content arise through the inspiration of the lectures there. I am current- ly part of the marketing and e-Commerce team for Thomas Cook at head office. I write blog content, source images and schedule and report on social media activities for some of the Thomas Cook brands. I got this job through persistence and hard work as I messaged a former director at Thomas Cook about a job and without his help I wouldn’t have this amazing opportunity now. But without my time at university I wouldn’t have the skills or confidence needed for this job. I learnt so much about the industry and with- out my degree I wouldn’t be here now.”
