Emma Beese is the section head of Travel, Tourism and Business Skills at Lowestoft College “We currently offer Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas and Extended Diplomas in Travel and Tourism as well as an Air Cabin Crew course at Level 2. Students benefit from diversity in terms of subject mat- ter, advice and guidance from a huge number of guest speakers, excellent preparation for employ- ment and a variety of effective links with local industries. We’ve recently launched a partnership with the ATPI group where Level 3 Diploma students hone their business travel consultancy skills on dedicated work placements. Our links with employers have proved extremely successful in providing both work experience and permanent employment.”

Dr Ilaria Pappalepore Is senior lecturer in Events and Tourism at the University of Westminster “We offer three undergraduate tourism courses (BAs): Tourism Planning and Management; Tourism with Business; and Tour- ism and Events Management. These programmes require two Bs and a C at A Level, or two dis- tinctions and a merit for a BTEC Extended diploma. Our courses explore the relationship between tourism and the wider environ- ment, developing the skills you need to successfully evaluate and manage tourism in host destinations. Our graduates have gone on to establish careers in a variety of public and private sec- tors including marketing, events management, tour operating, and destination planning.”

Richard Keys Is curriculum area manager tourism and aviation at Leeds City College “Eurocamp and Leeds City College work together on a programme for UK students called ewpUK (European Work Placement). This is the only course of its type in the UK. Students study for an Extended Certificate in Travel and Tour- ism and once completed will undertake a 22-week overseas work placement with Euro- camp in France. While working with Eurocamp, students com- plete an ewpUK portfolio. They return to college to receive the overall ewpUK qualification. An overseas work placement de- velops skills such as team work, customer service, confidence and independence.”
