Ann Lockwood is people and culture manager at Gold Medal Travel Group “Gold Medal Travel Group has always had a passion for seeing its people succeed. Ever since the company was founded over 40 years ago we have supported the recruitment and training of young people. Since recently becoming part of the dnata group, we are now in a position to take a fresh look at different routes to expertise – we are recruiting apprentices and starting our exciting new graduate programme next year. We have strong ties with local colleges and are currently working with three universities to get some new talent into the business. We took two apprentices as a trial last year and were delighted to make them both permanent full-time employees after successful completion of their programme.”
Iain Stevenson-Wood is HR manager at Neilson “Neilson Active Holidays offers a number of schemes to encourage our overseas employees to gain a
qualification that then enables them to progress their career as a watersports or yachting instructor. The first option we offer is a funded course through one of our third-party suppliers, UKSA. We also offer a range of ‘Zero to Hero’ training courses, whereby employees have the opportunity to gain qualifications even if they have no previous watersports experience. We also offer more-experienced employees the chance to progress their career as an instructor by offering a fully-funded bursary scheme. All the courses are approved by regulatory boards such as RYA and are therefore recognised worldwide.”
Katy Sayburn is managing director of Mallorca’s BH Hotel “We are building up to the opening of Mallorca’s most exciting concept hotel in summer 2015, and finding the best young people to work with us is absolutely central to our strategy. BH Mallorca will have three unique on-site experiences included in the room-rate – Mallorca’s first 18-plus waterpark, Magaluf’s coolest beach club and a stage and open-air festival venue hosting the world’s top DJs twice a week – so we’ll be recruiting and supporting the brightest talent to join the team in the place to be seen next summer. For us, attitude is far more important than previous experience, and we will have a full training programme in place to support those we recruit.”
