Delia Moisa, 22 Studying for a Tourism Manage- ment degree at the University of Derby in Buxton “One of the most exciting parts of the course was my overseas work placement year, which earned me a Diploma in Profes- sional Practices. The University of Derby has contacts all over the world, but I chose China, and it changed my life. The experience I gained is priceless. I had the chance to go through differ- ent departments in the hotel management, including guest relations, marketing, food and beverage and front desk, which helped me gain a more compre- hensive understanding of how things work in the tourism indus- try. I established connections that I hope will last for a lifetime. A part of me already belongs to China.”
Alex Loveridge, 21 Studying Tourism Management (BA) at Bournemouth University and currently undertaking a study abroad semester at University of Central Florida “As part of my degree I undertook a 10-month placement at ILOVETOUR, a brand in the specialist and activity sector of Tui Travel. I enjoyed amazing responsibilities working in the UK and abroad and through discovering an interest for tourism marketing, I was offered a further seven-week marketing placement. The success of these work placements fuelled my passion for the industry and I secured a semester at the University of Central Florida. Here, I am based at the heart of the tourism industry which opens many incredible opportunities.”
Emma Lewis, 17 Studying Level 3 BTEC Travel and Tourism at Cardiff and Vale College “I would love to be an air host- ess for Virgin Atlantic. I’ve want- ed to pursue this career since I was a young girl as I adore travelling. I would like to follow my brother in his career as he works for Virgin Atlantic as air cabin crew. In addition to being very enjoyable and the tutors being very supportive, this course is helping me follow my dream and learn about many aspects of the travel in- dustry. I have been on several educational visits, including a trip to Drayton Manor Theme Park, which are fun as well as helping me to learn more.”
