Sergeant Suren Pun (HQ 12 Armd BCT) was the course designer and lead instructor for a 2-day package of hands-on training on Bowman Combat v5.6 using the Bowman ComBAT training facilities at RSA Larkhill. Sgt Pun was assisted in the Bowman classroom by Sergeant John Asabil (1 R Welsh) and Corporal Rabson Mikana (HQ 12 Armd BCT). During this phase of the training the participants carried out role specific serials on Bowman ComBAT. This was useful as 90% of the participants had no previous exposure to the platform prior to the course.
Notable Achievements Participation throughout the week was superb with many students expressing how much more confident they felt in carrying out their deployed role upon returning to their units. Completion of formative and summative assessments throughout the week confirmed that the participants had really absorbed the lessons taught. The quality of SPS personnel we have in the Division, particularly some of the most junior cohort, was evident throughout the week. The way participants conducted themselves and their eagerness to learn was superb with all students contributing to lessons and performing very well during assessments. The below participants received awards for notable achievements and contributions during the exercise:
Top Students •
• • Overall Top Student Corporal Bridie O’Neill, 16 Regt RA
Best in Bowman ComBAT Private Dip Rana, 21 Sig Regt
Most Improved Private Shannon Williams, HCR
Notable Achievements
(receiving 3 Div Commander SPS coins): •
2nd Place Overall Corporal Sophie Needham, 19 Regt RA • •
Excellent contribution to the course Corporal Alan Brown, 3 DSR
Notable achievements in Bowman ComBAT Private Ashesh Purja, QRH
Collaboration with APSG and TDT Worthy Down is ongoing to integrate many of the training serials delivered during Ex IRON SKIRMISH into the SIPAC (Ph 2) training, ensuring that our soldiers arrive in their first units with a much better understanding of their deployed role.

Visits
During the exercise, we were honoured to host visits by senior leaders and training staff from across the SPS Branch, including the SPS Branch Colonel, Colonel Scott Vardy, SPS Commanders from other Divisions and representatives from Army Personnel Services Group (APSG) and the Training Development Team (TDT). Major Jess Beck briefed the visitors on the training objectives for exercise and the work of the DS in preparing such a comprehensive package of lessons as well as feedback received from the participants.
Useful discussions were had regarding how the deployed aspect of the Mil Pers Admin role should be incorporated into Phase 2 Mil Pers Admin training.
Ex IRON SKIRMISH certainly achieved its aims with many of the participants immediately deploying on Ex CERBERUS, a Div level Command Post exercise in Germany where participants were able to use the skills they had learnt over the course of the week.
